Sometime this week everything that says “C3 Church Marketing” will now say “C3 Church Consulting“. Why the change? Two words- Perception Management. Not only do I talk about it I practice it as well. You see, as I spread the word about what I was doing I began to encounter many pastors who shut down as soon as they hear or read the word “marketing”. It’s funny that when you mention “church” and “marketing” in the same sentence, many people freak out. My definition of marketing has always been “anything and everything that shapes or influences a person’s perception of your church.” Does traditional marketing like direct mail and billboards fall under this umbrella? Of course. But it’s just a small part of what I talk about. There are so many other things that shape the perception someone has about your church that would never be considered “marketing”.

Don't be afraid to ask "what if...?'

Because I understand that perception is reality and that I help church’s with tons of things ranging from vision, websites, visitor experience, to leadership development and team building, and very little about traditional marketing, I decided to drop “marketing” and go with something very familiar to most pastors, “consulting”. Can I help a church that has marketing questions? Without a doubt. Is that what I focus on? Absolutely not. My heart and passion are to help you, the local church pastor, do what God has called you to do best. In just one meeting with a pastor, through one idea, I was able to help save his church $9,000 that he was able to reallocate and hire a part-time staff person that he desperately needed. Do you think that makes his job easier? You betcha! Did that have anything to do with marketing? Not at all. So what do I do? I help you clarify who you are called and equipped to reach, help you communicate clearly and effectively with them, and then help you connect them to Christ. I bring a fresh set of eyes into the picture and I love to ask the question “what if…?”.
